We run chess sessions, at our central Upminster venue alongside Upminster Library, for both adults and juniors on Tuesday evenings between September and July - we are closed during August for the summer break.
We pride ourselves on a relaxed atmosphere, with members from all backgrounds, with different abilities, offering help for beginners.
Junior session is between 6:15pm and 7:15pm, ages range from 7-16, younger children may be accepted with the prior agreement of the Junior Organiser.
Junior sessions are a mixture of play and instruction, we do not unfortunately have the facilities to be able to teach children who have no prior knowledge of the game - our expectation is that children will already know how the pieces move before they join the club. If you wish your child to come along for a few taster sessions, please contact the Junior Organiser via the contact details page, there is no charge for the initial two sessions.
Adult session (for adults and experienced juniors) is between 7.15pm and 10.30pm
All ages and abilities are welcome at the club - whether you want just a social game or are interested in more serious league chess.
You will always find a warm welcome (and tea/coffee) if you are at a loss for something to do on a Tuesday evening. There is no charge for the initial two sessions.
“I only joined the club in November 21, once the COVID restrictions were relaxed. Everyone here has been very helpful, and supportive, and definitely my chess is improving with the help ofMatt Garwood
